GOP’s Rx for Gun Violence: More Guns
House Republicans Vote to End Colorado Background Check for Gun Buyers
(Denver) – House Republicans’ loyalty to GOP — Guns Over People — prevailed today when they gave initial approval to a bill that would end Colorado’s background check for firearms purchasers.
HB12-1048, sponsored by Rep. Mark Waller (R-Colorado Springs), would make the FBI background check the only insurance that a gun buyer is a law-abiding citizen without murderous intent.
The Colorado Bureau of Investigation background check goes beyond the FBI version by catching individuals against whom charges are pending or who are subject to restraining orders – a key indicator of the potential for domestic violence. Rep. Su Ryden (D-Aurora) said the CBI “instacheck” has prevented at least 450 at-risk individuals from buying a gun.
Rep. Claire Levy (D-Boulder) noted that every major law enforcement organization in the state opposes Rep. Waller’s bill.
Rep. Angela Williams (D-Denver), who lost a cousin this year to gun violence, rose to note the outcry over “the senseless death” of Trayvon Martin, the Florida youth whose shooting death has prompted nationwide protests. “We cannot continue to stand by as our young and primarily minority men die senseless deaths,” she told the House.
Rep. Rhonda Fields (D-Aurora), who lost a son in 2005 to gun violence, said the Republican agenda made the GOP a “menace to society.”
“Already this session, the House Republicans have passed bills to allow anyone to carry a concealed handgun without a permit and to allow business owners to shoot fleeing robbers even if their own lives aren’t threatened,” Rep. Fields said. “Maximizing the number of guns is no way to stem the violence that afflicts our society.”

What an apalling Bill;
We have just taken to steps backwards toward the Wild West Days, and are continuing to allow and support a “blood bath” in our city. This is not going to help solve this issue of people with guns using them irresponsible. We should have never allowed persons to carry guns and shoot people: now we claim all sorts of proclamations to kill. We just saw a senseless killing at a Church, by a random indiviual that had issues. Our societies woes are getting worse, not better. If this is any indication, that we need (more) guns, then we’ll continue to see more folks killed by angry, bitter and confused people that may or may not have a RIGHT to carry. Sure that was an isolated incident and Lord thank you an off duty Police was on-site or it could have easily been worse. When people shoot to kill at churches, we are all but miserable and targets. The respect of/for human kind has fallen to an all time low. Guns don’t kill people, people kill people and now we’re saying, go ahead, kill if you will?
Lord God Almighty be with us!

So will you always ask god for an “off duty” Police Officer to be around? Would an “off duty” Military like myself work? How about a regular citizen that has a “right to carry” and takes the responsibility of it seriously? Would that work for you if it saved lives? Have you ever noticed that many of these shootings happen at Schools, Post Offices and other supposed “gun free zones”? Your example of a church is another one where he didn’t expect others to have a gun… Gun restrictions just serve to make the criminal feel safer that they’ll be the only one with a gun… I don’t remember where I saw this quote, but, it fits… “An armed society is a polite society”
